ELITE XC PRESS CONFERENCE
Thursday - June 12, 2008 by Vince Krause The media turned out in full force today for the EliteXC press conference.
In a rare never-before-seen moment, T.Jay Thompson (ICON Promoter / ProElite Exec) was seen on his T-Mobile SideKick. It was truly a shocking moment and the masses are expected to recover. Please also take note of the no-expenses-spared duct tape repair job on T.Jay's recent training injury.
Also in attendance to support and corner his brother was Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.
Yves Edwards was focussed, relaxed, and looked prepared.
EliteXC's defending lightweight champion, KJ Noons, arrives and shakes hands with opponent and long-time friend Yves Edwards.
EliteXC head honcho Doug DeLuca was on hand and had some kind words to share about enjoying having his event here in Hawaii and about the fans that have turned out to support the EliteXC events. It looks like Hawaii fans will continue to enjoy EliteXC events for the foreseeable future.
Yves Edwards was dressed casually and relaxed like most in attendance, but KJ Noons, the current reigning champ decided to take the Elvis-RockStar approach to today's media opportunity.
Jay Dee Penn, older brother of current UFC lightweight champion and superstar BJ Penn, kept his comments short, but long enough to make sure to take a stab at alluding to enjoying working with former promting rival T.Jay Thompson... a little...
T.Jay Thompson didn't let Penn off the hook without a rebuttal.
In what has the makings of a potentially exciting match-up Mushin Corbbrey will be taking on the infamous Nick Diaz.
While on the mic, Yves Edwards expressed his respect for KJ Noons, and the fact that he's the hometown favorite here, but respectfully requested that the crowd not boo him TOO much since that can hurt a guy's feelings.
KJ Noons repeatedly expressed his respect for Yves Edwards and the fact that he used to look up to him (does that mean he doesn't look up to him anymore?... lol), but emphatically assured Edwards that he didn't intend to give up his title.
Yves Edwards vs KJ Noons, Saturday at the Blaisdell Arena. The fights will start at 3:00PM so don't be late.
The cast and crew of EliteXC.
A fighter who ALWAYS shows up ready to fight; Nick Diaz.
Younger brother and rising UFC star Nate Diaz also in town to support big brother.
We've been hearing that we can expect BIG things from Rafael Feijao and that he may soon be considered one of the best in the world in his division. We're looking forward to seeing him fight here in Hawaii.
Rickson Gracie black belt Romolo Barros of Brazilian Freestyle Jiu-Jitsu and UFC Middleweight World Champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva.
